What is LMT and What Does LMT Stand For 482 sponsored visa

What is LMT?

Have you heard of the term LMT and do you wonder what LMT stands for in the context of a 482 Job search?

What Does LMT Stand For?

LMT stands for Labour Market Testing and the reason behind LMT is to make sure that Australian employers are giving an opportunity for local job seekers before engaging an overseas employee.

The LMT requirements have changed recently, however, the latest requirement is that employers need to advertise the job vacancy for up to 28 days before they can make an offer to an overseas candidate. They will also (if requested) need to confirm that this action was undertaken.

Is there an exception to LMT?

There is no exception to the labour market testing rules. It is a mandatory requirement before the employer can nominate the employee for a particular position in Australia.

So would they need to do that before advertising on websites like this one?

Hi Poppy, that’s a good question and what we have found is many employers will do this in parallel.

The system itself isn’t particularly foolproof. As we mentioned here:

“Employers need to advertise the job vacancy for up to 28 days before they can make an offer to an overseas candidate.”

So in theory, if they advertise the role on 482 jobs but do not offer a role until day 29, they are still meeting the LMT criteria.

      Hope this helps clarify.
