Downer Rail & Transit Systems (RTS) has the largest rollingstock capability in Australia.
Downer has been selected as a preferred applicant to deliver Queensland Train Manufacturing Program (QTMP), the largest investment in new rollingstock in Queensland history. Design, build, and maintenance of 65 brand new trains, design and build of a train manufacturing facility on Fraser Coast of Queensland, design and build of a train depot and stabling yard, a huge boost to local manufacturing and supply chain.
The Technical Director is a project leadership position for a major rollingstock and infrastructure project in Queensland, Australia. This role will work with a key leadership team of 6 and manage up to a direct team of up to 30.
This high-profile role on a 7.1-billion-dollar project ensures the integration of train design, manufacturing facilities, ICT systems for operations, maintenance facilities and Through Life Support (TLS) services. This role manages a team of qualified engineers that oversees the engineering design products delivered by sub-contractors of the project and ensures a fully integrated outcome.
The Technical Director manages resources to perform specific governance and assurance tasks of our supply partners and provides guidance on key decisions concerning project direction, client management and engineering compliance for the project.
Mature negotiation skills are required with associated cross functional engineering knowledge to ensure the project’s safety, delivery timelines, costs and quality are maintained.
The Technical Director is responsible for ensuring that approved engineering system and tools are maintained and ensuring overall compliance to regulatory requirements.
Experience
- Must have 15 to 20 years’ relevant experience in rollingstock or large infrastructure with rollingstock project delivery.
- Strong experience in the integration of multiple workstreams for a major infrastructure project.
- Experience developing and being accountable for railway safety cases and associated safety documentation.
- Highly developed oral and written communication skills with all stakeholders, including the ability to conduct detailed investigations and provide clear and decisive results and written reports.
- Chartered Engineer (or equivalent) and eligible to be registered on Engineer’s Australia National Engineering Register and relevant State Engineering Registers.
