The position will have a microbiology laboratory focus, with clinical infectious diseases sessions available.  Dual trained applicants or registrars completing their fellowship are encouraged to apply.

The RHH Department of Microbiology and Infectious Diseases provides integrated laboratory and clinical infectious diseases services. The laboratory is the Public Health Laboratory for Tasmania, and includes microbiology, molecular and microbial genomics laboratorie

The Role

  • Provide diagnostic and consultative clinical microbiology services to RHH inpatients and outpatients.
  • Supervise the RHH’s Pathology microbiology and molecular microbiology laboratories, including direct laboratory supervision, policy development, participation in quality activities, assay assessment and development.
  • Assist in providing consultative service in microbiology to hospital specialist units, medical colleagues, and allied health care workers.
  • Liaise with Public Health Services Tasmania regarding infections of public health significance.
  • Provision of clinical infectious diseases services as required, if within scope of practice.
  • Ensure that relevant scope of practice in Microbiology is maintained to ensure that the National Pathology Accreditation Advisory Council (NPACC) supervisory requirements are met for required testing in Microbiology.

Salary

Medical Practitioners (Public Sector) Award

A remuneration package comprising the Agreement base salary, relevant allowances and other entitlements will be negotiated with the successful applicant dependent on clinical experience and seniority.

Base salary points range for Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1 at $210,000 through to Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 11 at $288,000 with further salary increments available.

  • Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $291,472 – $301,349 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

  • Allowance in lieu of motor vehicle currently set at $28,389 pro rata per annum, paid fortnightly (with CPI indexation on 1 July each year).
  • Continuing Professional Development Allowance of $16,000 pro rata per annum.
  • Relocation allowance.
  • On call allowance % of Base Salary.
  • All other allowances as per current Award.
  • And subject to approval from the Private Patient Scheme Committee (PPS), 35% of Base salary plus on-call, pro rata) of additional payment will be paid from (PPS). If not admitted to the PPS, a 35% in lieu of PPS of base salary will be paid.

Other Benefits:

  • You will have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year other benefits if eligible.
  • You will also have access to accommodation and relocation costs.
Details of Appointment

Permanent part-time day work (with on-call), working up to 60.8 hours per fortnight.

Essential Requirements

  • Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant specialty
  • Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (FRCPA) or equivalent.

The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer.  The following checks are to be conducted:

  1. Conviction checks in the following areas:

    2. Sex related offences
    3. Serious drug offences
    4. Crimes involving dishonesty
