About this role
The Outreach Geriatrician will join an enthusiastic Aged Care team in providing a comprehensive range of Aged Care services to older people in the Murrumbidgee LHD. This will involve working in the community with input into hospital and Residential Aged Care settings across the district. The MLHD covers an area of over 125,000 sq.km and has a population of 243,000, 19.3% of whom are aged ≥ 65 yrs and 2.7% ≥ 85 yrs.
The Outreach Geriatrician will provide specialist advice to General Practitioners and other community providers on the management of older people. This will include telephone, videoconferencing and some in-person advice or review of community-dwelling older people with an aim to prevent functional or medical decline. The Outreach Geriatrician will aim to reduce decline in function and hospitalisation for frail older people with chronic or subacute frailty or comorbidity.
The position will provide clinical consultation services within MLHD and will contribute to the teaching and training of medical students, graduates and other health care professionals and to research, evaluation and quality improvement activities within the District.

The location of this role is negatiable with the Murrumbidgee Local Health District.
Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD) spans over 125,000 square kilometres across southern New South Wales, stretching from the Snowy Mountains in the east to the plains of Hillston in the northwest and all the way along the Victorian border.
As the largest employer in the region with over 5,000 healthcare staff and volunteers working across 33 hospitals and 12 primary health care centres.

- Current Medical qualification that is registrable with the Medical Board of Australia and listed on the Australian Health Practitioners Registration Authority (AHPRA).
- Evidence of Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, specializing in Geriatric Medicine or an Advanced Trainee in the final 6 months of training approaching fellowship and/or proof of recognition as a specialist by the Specialists Recognition Advisory Committee.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience of contemporary evidence based best practice In Geriatric Medicine and evidence of competence in skills relevant to Australian rural hospital practice.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and harmoniously with medical and other colleagues as part of a multidisciplinary health care team and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients, and colleagues
- Demonstrated commitment to teaching and training at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.
- Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to involvement in quality improvement and research programs, and an ability to work in a computerised environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to continuing self-education and development, including evidence of participation in continuing medical education / continuing professional
- Demonstrated commitment to behaviors which align to the NSW Health CORE values and MLHD Values, goals and strategies
