This position based at Ravenhall Correctional Centre in Melbourne’s west, provides 75 prison-based custodial mental health beds as well as assessments and outpatient services provided in maximum-security forensic mental health complex within the medium-security prison.About the


The Senior Psychologist works on a unit within Ballerrt Yeram-boo-ee with mentally disordered patients/prisoners as a member of the multidisciplinary team. The Senior Psychologist provides a high level of clinical psychological expertise to Forensicare services at Ballerrt Yeram-boo-ee. The psychologist provide high level consultation and advice on complex clinical matters; completes psychological reports for court as required and contributes to special projects, committees and working parties within the organisation including the development of policies and procedures. As a senior professional representative, the position also provides consultancy and advice to other agencies and key stakeholders. The Psychologist also participates in the training and supervision of psychology placement students, interns, registrars and staff of other disciplines where appropriate.


  • Role model and promote effective and collaborative working relationships with; Forensicare staff, GEO Prison and Clinical staff, Correct Care Australasia staff and Alliance Partners.
  • Provide an advanced range of psychological services including advice on the management and treatment of complex patient/prisoner issues to other clinicians.
  • Provide specialist psychological, psychometric assessments and reports where necessary.
  • Provide individual and/or group interventions as appropriate.
  • Contribute to patient/prisoner risk management plans in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team

About You:

  • Demonstrated commitment to mental health consumer recovery.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing a high level of services in forensic mental health and related settings.
  • Experience in clinical forensic mental health practice including forensic assessments (e.g., court ordered assessments, assessment of risk for violence) and intervention with offenders.
  • Knowledge and experience working with offenders, including those with personality disorders.
  • A good understanding of the current psychological approaches in working with mentally disordered male patients in the forensic mental health setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and supervision to staff and students.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, the mental health system, and the criminal justice system.
  • Expertise in clinical/forensic research and program development and evaluation.

What you need:

  • Masters or Doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology from an Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) accredited course or equivalent, or a Doctorate degree in Forensic Psychology from an APAC accredited course or equivalent.
  • Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulations Agency (AHPRA).
  • The successful candidate will be required to register their qualifications on eCredential.
