About the Food and Beverage Accelerator
The University of Queensland’s Food and Beverage Accelerator (FaBA) is a $160 million initiative aimed at boosting growth and innovation in the food and beverage manufacturing sector, with a goal of doubling the value of Australia’s food and beverage manufacturing sector by 2030. The initiative is funded by a $50 million Trailblazer grant from the Australian Government and $110 million from industry and innovation partners, including QUT and UniSQ, and will provide manufacturers access to research teams, pilot facilities, and state-of-the-art equipment. Investment will be distributed across Queensland, including in Toowoomba, Mackay, Cairns, and Brisbane.
About This Opportunity
A newly-created opportunity exists to develop your expertise and emerging research profile and build a new research capability in food extrusion as part of the Premium Foods and Beverage program within the prestigious Australia’s Food and Beverage Accelerator.
You will be involved in developing state-of-the-art experimental capabilities in food structure design and food extrusion, and working with industry to optimise process technologies for converting plant and other protein sources into human foods. UQ has two brand new food extruders (lab scale and pilot scale devices). You will be expected to develop research program and work collaboratively with researchers within the Trailblazer Food and Beverage Accelerator to perform both strategic and applied research and engage with industrial research partners to deliver impactful outcomes.

This is a full-time, fixed-term position until end of June 2026.
At Academic Level B, the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $104,579 – $124,187, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $122,358 – $145,299 annually.

About You
Completion or near completion of a PhD in Chemical Engineering or Food Engineering, or related field of Science or Engineering with experience in extrusion processing area.
An emerging profile in research in the discipline area.
Evidence of publications in reputed refereed journals and presenting at conferences.
Demonstrated capacity to engage with industry and deliver impactful outcomes.
Some experience in meaningful internal service roles and contributions towards external activities.
Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate scientific research.
